The following are a handful of reasons to consider buying a used automobile this winter:
- Used Cars Are Better Than Ever – At one time, we viewed a vehicle with 100,000 miles on the odometer as a senior citizen among cars, but now that's more like middle age. Embracing the value and buying a used vehicle with some miles on it can prove to be more bang for the proverbial buck.
- Skip the Depreciation – All vehicles lose value over time, but it's not a steady drop. Most new vehicles lose about a fifth of their value the minute they are driven off of the lot, then another ten percent over the course of the first year. It is not at all odd for a vehicle to be worth half of what a customer paid for it within three or four years, so buying a vehicle that is, say, three years old skips the worst of that depreciation.
- Warranties – Best of all, certified pre-owned vehicles can come with some great extended warranties, meaning some of those reservations buyers have about reliability can go away too, because the warranty protects them from most of what could go wrong.
