If you're driving one of our Jeep® or Dodge vehicles in Maryland, you need to have insurance coverage. There are different types of Jeep insurance options out there, and some are mandatory while others are optional add-ons.

Here's what you need to know before you buy or lease from Heritage Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Parkville.

Required Jeep Insurance Coverage in Maryland

If you're driving a vehicle in Maryland, you must have bodily injury insurance that covers up to $60,000 in damages along with property damage insurance that covers up to $15,000. This coverage doesn't pay for your injuries or property damage, but it covers others who are involved in an accident with you.

You also need uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage, a minimum of $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident, along with at least $15,000 in uninsured motorist property damage coverage. This covers you in the event that you are hit by an uninsured driver.

No insurer will sell you a plan without these types of coverage when you're buying insurance for your vehicle. However, there are some additional types of coverage to be aware of, even though they are optional.

Other Insurance Coverage

Collision: As we mentioned, the property damage coverage is for damage that you cause to another person's property. Collision is an optional coverage that pays to repair the damage your vehicle sustained in an accident.

Comprehensive: This covers damage from sources other than accidents, including weather events, flooding, and even theft.

Gap Insurance: If your car is totaled and you owe more on the loan than the car is worth, this insurance covers that “gap.” It's really only useful for new cars.

Medical Payments: This can cover the cost of your medical bills after an accident.
