Engine Choices
These RAM trucks offer similar engine options. Both are available with a 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 gasoline engine that produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. Another choice, which offers more towing power, is the Cummins® turbo diesel engine, which maxes out at 370 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque.
However, only the RAM 3500 offers the high-output version of this diesel engine. It ups the output to an astounding 1,075 lb-ft of torque.
Payload Ratings
The 2023 RAM 2500 is the smaller truck, so it offers lower payload ratings. It can carry a maximum of 3,140 pounds or 4,000 pounds, depending on the engine option chosen.
The 2023 RAM 3500 maxes out at 7,680 pounds, but some engine choices can push that number a bit lower.
Towing Capacity
Both of these trucks can tow an impressive amount, but the 2023 RAM 3500 has the edge here. The 2022 RAM 2500 can tow up to 19,980 pounds with a diesel engine and up to 17,730 pounds with a gasoline engine.
The 2023 RAM 3500 tows up to 37,090 pounds with a high-output diesel engine. The available gasoline engine allows it to tow up to 18,210 pounds.
Trim Levels
The RAM 2500 and RAM 3500 both offer plenty of trim levels to pick from. However, the Rebel® and Power Wagon® models are two off-road focused trims that can only be selected on the 2023 RAM 2500.
